Barcelona and Madrid are among the top foodie cities in the world, according to data from TripAdvisor.
The travel review website looked at a number of variables when making its list, including how many food tour bookings were made for a destination compared to the number of tours available, and traveller reviews and ratings.
Barcelona, with its interactive Spanish cooking experience, was the fourth most popular spot, while Madrid came in eighth place, where the Madrid tapas and wine tasting tour was the most booked by travellers.
The inclusion of two Spanish cities on the list – only Italy had more cities featured in the top ten, while the US also had two locations – just goes to show how popular Spanish cuisine is becoming.
However, what do you do if you go on the interactive Spanish cooking experience in Barcelona and want to recreate some of the delicacies you sampled for friends and family at home? Don’t worry, you won’t need to fill your suitcase with food – you can order speciality ingredients, such as a Serrano ham leg or authentic paella rice online.
To get some other inspiration of dishes to whip up once you’re back at home, make sure you hit the tapas bars in Barcelona or Madrid for an authentic taste of Spanish cuisine – ask about which wines should go with which dishes too.
Hosting your own wine and tapas party, using traditional Spanish ingredients, could be the ideal way to bring back fond memories of your trip as well as sharing some of what you discovered with your friends.
